Perhaps next to the living room (or could it be the bathroom?), the kitchen is one of the most frequented places in the house since eating and drinking are basic human necessities, and it is in there where the foods and refreshments are stocked. And who can ever resist the inviting smell of a something being cooked coming straight form the kitchen? So, it is only but appropriate that you take into considerations the look, the design, the style and even the atmosphere that you want to incorporate in your kitchen. For small kitchens, it could all well be a daunting task since it’s difficult to make plans for rooms that have limited spaces. Organization and accessibility are the key elements in achieving a kitchen where cooking and cleaning up and other possible activities that could be done there can be accomplished easily and quickly. There are plenty of kitchen design ideas available in most home improvement magazines. There are websites that are teeming with articles concerning tips and procedures on how to improve the current state of one’s kitchen particularly for homeowners who have to make the most out of their small cooking cum dining area. The design that you should be applying must compliment the wideness of the kitchen area. Since space is the primary concern for smaller kitchens, adapting specific kitchen storage solutions will help you to effectively maximize all the available space in your kitchen. There are storage solutions that specifically cater to certain brands of cabinets only, but don’t fret since there are also storage solutions that are applicable to most cabinets. It is advisable that even before you begin planning and designing for the kitchen floor, you already have set possible storage solutions. The shape of your kitchen (Is it L-shaped? G-shaped? Double LL-shaped? U-shaped? Galley-shaped? Single-wall type?) highly determines how much storage space is needed. For example, A U-shaped kitchen may have more available floor space compared to an L-shaped one. A pleasant-looking kitchen filled with storage spaces may be a dream for some, but actually it’s attainable. Cupboards and cabinets are not only the potential areas in the kitchen that can serve as storage spaces. Try to look up and see for yourself what the ceiling can possibly contribute for storage solutions. The ceiling is a perfect candidate for storing certain kitchenware and supplies. Some cabinets can be hanged and the same thing also goes for certain pans and other cooking wares because of the hole in their handles. Once you have finished assigning the respective spots for the gas range, the refrigerator, the microwave oven, etc., take a note of the specific areas in the kitchen that are still available. If the walls are still bare, you may hang a portrait or something for some aesthetic impact but use most of the available spaces in the wall by installing wall cabinets or rack holders to hold those small bottles of spices, herbs and other various condiments. If you would further look around the kitchen and notice that the corners are free, then convert those still available spaces into something more worthwhile. Have corner kitchen cabinets that definitely do not eat up much space. They are not that difficult to make, though you have to take extra care in getting the right angle measurements. Measure the woods not only once but twice. Remember, a cut wood cannot be joined again. If ever woodworking is not your forte or you simply cannot get the work done, hire the service of a carpenter who is a certified expert when it comes to measurements. And while the carpenter is busy constructing your corner cabinets, why not transfer your concerns out of the kitchen and into the yard outside and consider herb gardening? Remember all those bottles of herbs and spices mentioned a while ago? Well, why not get them straight form your own garden? Instead of running to the nearest local store when you ran out of black pepper or basil leaves, just pick them up from the yard. Fresh and absolutely free! I’m sure your kitchen has at least one window, so it’s possible to have an indoor herb garden. It will only occupy a small space in the kitchen (in the windowsill only to be specific) and will somehow even add an earthy appeal to your kitchen. Plants are also known to improve the quality of indoor air so go for it!
