Ray Bans were initially produced in 1936 by Bausch and Lomb on the request of Leutenant John Macready, a balloonist who thought that the glare from the sun was damaging his eyes. He asked Bausch and Lomb to fashion & manufacture a pair of glasses that would cover his eyes from the glare of the sun while giving an stylish look.
